Established in 1990, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is a national early warning system to detect possible safety problems in U.S.-licensed vaccines. VAERS is co-managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). VAERS accepts and analyzes reports of adverse events (possible side effects) after a person has received a vaccination.

Today I refer not just to my mentor, the distinguished Harvard graduate, former professor, and NIH researcher who participated in saving 7,000 patients from COVID-19.  Instead, today I also call attention to the actions of Dr. Scott Jensen, a small-town family physician who practices in Watertown, Minnesota, a community of some 4,000 people.

“None of the civilian employee plaintiffs will be subject to discipline while his or her request for a religious exception is pending,”

The watchdog group, Protect the Public’s Trust, filed a complaint and urged the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct an investigation into the statements from Director Francis Collins and the CDC. The group alleges misrepresentation of the benefits of natural immunity when Collins claimed higher reinfection rates for unvaccinated, recovered COVID-19 infections than for fully vaccinated. These findings from a limited and potentially flawed Kentucky study contradict at least 15 other international studies with much larger cohorts yet it has been used to drive public policy, mandate vaccines and censor discussion on natural immunity. These factors undermine public trust of these institutions and warrants an inquiry.

The CDC’s press release on August 6, 2021, made several statements that appear to be inconsistent with the underlying study cited and either misrepresent or distort the conclusion. As a result, the faulty conclusion was cited by multiple media sources and has yet to be accurately, honestly, and completely corrected or rescinded. The release reads, in part:

We request that you open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the public communications highlighted in this letter. Part of the inquiry should explore the decisions by agency officials to continue promoting what appears to be a scientifically unsound conclusion given the relevant data and academic literature available, along with the Kentucky study’s methodological infirmities.

The CDC is waging a war against its own credibility by refusing to accept natural immunity.
