Open Schools, Covid-19, and Child and Teacher Morbidity in Sweden

In mid-March 2020, many countries decided to close schools in an attempt to limit the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).1,2 Sweden was one of the few countries that decided to keep preschools (generally caring for children 1 to 6 years of age) and schools (with children 7 to 16 years of age) open. Here, we present data from Sweden on Covid-19 among children 1 to 16 years of age and their teachers.

Immunological memory to SARS-CoV-2 assessed for up to 8 months after infection

This is the largest antigen-specific study to date of the four major types of immune memory for any viral infection.

CONCLUSION

Substantial immune memory is generated after COVID-19, involving all four major types of immune memory. About 95% of subjects retained immune memory at ~6 months after infection. Circulating antibody titers were not predictive of T cell memory. Thus, simple serological tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies do not reflect the richness and durability of immune memory to SARS-CoV-2. This work expands our understanding of immune memory in humans. These results have implications for protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2 and recurrent COVID-19.

The Lab-Leak Hypothesis For decades, scientists have been hot-wiring viruses in hopes of preventing a pandemic, not causing one. But what if …?

This entertaining and easy-to-read article discusses the likelihood and contradictions regarding the "lab leak theory." It gives a historical perspective to viral research including warnings and interviews from key actors. The highly charged political implications related to these answers has dominated the investigation. Censoring individuals and walking back comments has been common. A good explanation of the natural evolution theory is explored as well as evidence surrounding gain of function research.
